Creating your own options strategy can take some time. If you get any strikes wrong, then your plan will change. However, using pre-built strategies can help, especially during results season, as you can find out which stocks are going to move based on the f&o results calendar. Here are the pre-built strategies available and when to use them.
Which Readymade Strategies Can You Use?
HDFC Sky has Quick Options. NxtOption can be used to create a strategy. It has a strategy builder and a strategy watch for straddles/strangles and basket orders. Here is a table of the common strategies.
| Strategy | Market view | Legs | Risk |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bull call spread | Moderately bullish | 2 | Defined |
| Bear put spread | Moderately bearish | 2 | Defined |
| Iron condor | Sideways | 4 | Defined |
| Butterfly spread | Price stays near one level | 3 or 4 | Defined |
| Long straddle | Big move, direction unknown | 2 | Premium paid |
| Short straddle | Quiet market | 2 | High |
Spreads limit your losses, meaning they require less margin. Margin for baskets can be viewed on the platform.
What Does It Cost?
Opening an account with HDFC Sky is free. AMC is free for the first year and then costs ₹20 per month. Brokerage is ₹20 per order. KYC can be done online.
Which Strategy Suits Results Season?
Stocks can move quickly during results. A long straddle is great for expecting a large movement in the stock, but usually the IV will be high pre-results, meaning you pay more in premium. Iron condors are great for low volatility but can be hit by a gap post-results. Bull call spreads or bear put spreads are great for having a directional bias with limited risk.
How Does a Basket Order Work?
Choose your expiry date. Choose the legs from the option chain and add to your basket. Check margin requirements and place all the legs together. If any order fails, you can try again from the order status.
How Do You Use the F&O Results Calendar?
You can filter by date range or security name. The table shows you the company name, symbol, security code and result date. For example, BSE will be reported on 4 Nov 2026, and ABB India will be reported on 13 Nov 2026. Make sure to note these dates, as if there is a result within your expiry date, it will affect your risk.
What Are the Risks?
Just because it is hedged doesn’t mean it is risk-free. You could still lose your full maximum risk. Short straddles have high risk and require large margin. You also have to pay taxes and exchange fees. Margin requirements can change depending on the volatility, so always double-check how much margin you need. Start with 1 lot and have an exit strategy.
Which Setup Should Beginners Try First?
Start with bull call spreads or bear put spreads. They are two legs and have limited risk. Try paper trading if possible. Before open demat account, compare the costs and tools available. Does the broker show margin?
Pre-built strategies can save you time. Choose a strategy that fits your bias. Please do not regard this as financial advice; it is simply basic information.
